Amy Kartheiser

Founder + President

Amy Kartheiser is Principal and Founder of Amy Kartheiser Design, a luxury residential interior design firm located in Chicago. Since its establishment in 2014, the firm has completed projects across the United States with a vision to bring happiness and warmth to the lives of others.

Amy’s passions extend well beyond design. After personal experience with the devastating impact of suicide, Amy became involved with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), participating in walks and additional programming. As her connection to the organization deepened, she recognized its purpose is universal — to save lives and help those affected by suicide — and knew she was meant to commit her time and efforts to this critical mission. Through Under the Same Sky, Amy has found a way to bridge her love of design with a cause that is extremely close to her heart.

 Board of Directors

  • Amanda Samuels, Secretary

Amanda Samuels is Chief Communications and Marketing Officer for Rackspace. Throughout her career, Amanda has led and advised organizations, including United Airlines and Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, on marketing and communications strategies to successfully advance brand and reputation and achieve significant business transformation.

Within a span of a few short years, Amanda saw the lives of those around her impacted by suicide, as the national suicide rate reach continued to rise. She was moved to take immediate action in order to help raise necessary awareness for suicide prevention. Knowing she shared Amy’s dedication and passion for the issue, Amanda was sure that by combining their creativity, expertise and sense of mission, they could make the vision for Under the Same Sky a reality.

  • Jim Compton, Treasurer

Jim Compton is the former Vice Chairman and Chief Revenue Officer of United Airlines. Prior to his retirement in December 2016, he spent 30 years in the airline industry leading organizations and growing revenue through network optimization, marketing initiatives, e-commerce, alliance development and pricing/revenue management strategies. In addition to serving on the Under the Same Sky Board of Directors, Jim is the Chair of the Board for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Jim also serves on the board of the Lincoln Park Zoological Society of Chicago.

Jim’s personal experience having lost his son to suicide in 2006 is the driving force behind his commitment to furthering the mission of Under the Same Sky and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

  • Mike Lamma

Mike Lamma oversees AFSP’s fundraising initiatives—including walks, the Lifesavers Gala, and individual and corporate giving—as well as AFSP’s nationwide network of chapters, which raise funds and deliver prevention and support programs at the local level.

When he joined AFSP in 2004, he established the Out of the Darkness series including the Community and Campus Walks, which have become one of the top peer-to-peer fundraisers in the country.

During his leadership, the chapters have grown from 18 sites to 79 chapters in all 50 states, and fundraising has increased over 900 percent.

  • Andrew Rogoff

After more than 30 years as an associate and partner in the firm Pepper Hamilton, Andrew Rogoff is now a fellow in the Pepper Center for Public Service, representing immigrants to this country who are seeking the legal protections American law affords to those facing persecution in their home countries.

Before joining the Pepper Center, Andrew was a trial lawyer in the firm, where he focused his practice on the defense of pharmaceutical product liability claims brought by individuals and by state attorneys general, as well as allegations of professional negligence.

Andrew is a former member of the AFSP Finance Committee.
